We were saddened to hear of the passing of former boarder Robert Sargent (SPC 1955-56, PY1959) on July 4 2026, aged 84.
Robert, or Rob to his family, and Bob to his friends, was a boarder at SPC for two years from Stawell.
He enjoyed his time at SPC, however family circumstances at the time meant that he returned to Stawell and finished his schooling in Stawell.
Rob spent his second and sub-intermediate years at SPC, and particularly enjoyed spending his weekends with family friends, enjoying these experiences.
After finishing his schooling, Rob worked with the SEC for 20 years. He met his wife Patricia while stationed at Mount Beauty and together, they travelled around the state as Rob鈥檚 work took them to numerous new communities including Ouyen, Seymour, Werribee and Hoppers Crossing.
Rob worked in the finance department and later became a business manager at numerous catholic primary and secondary schools, including St Joseph鈥檚 College in Fitzroy, St Paul鈥檚 in Altona North. He was a finance officer with the Catholic Education Office, working in Melbourne and Geelong.
Even after retiring, Patricia says Rob 鈥渓iked to keep busy鈥� and continued to use his extensive knowledge and experience to help schools with financial advice during their construction builds or renovations, including St Mary鈥檚 of the Cross in Point Cook, which grew rapidly due to booming enrolments.
Together, Rob and Patricia brought up four children, Anne, Matthew, Elizabeth and Richard and now have seven grandchildren.
Rob and Patricia moved to Ballan in 2009 and enjoyed the lifestyle until Rob was diagnosed with bowel cancer, which later spread and took his life in three short months.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Patricia and her extended family on Rob鈥檚 loss.
